    Book Club

Book Club for February & March

The next meeting of the book club will be Sunday, February 12th at 9:30am at the Everett Senior Center. We will be discussing the movie Page One: Inside the New York Times. This documentary film offers an inside look at the newsroom of the New York Times at a time when newspapers all over the U.S. are going bankrupt. From the film website: "At the heart of the film is the burning question on the minds of everyone who cares about a rigorous American press, Times lover or not: what will happen if the fast-moving future of media leaves behind the fact-based, original reporting that helps to define our society?" The film is available from Netflix (on demand and on DVD). Contact Carrie Talley or David Butcher if you are having trouble locating a copy. In March the book club will be discussing the late Christopher Hitchens' book God Is Not Great. According to the book cover, Hitchens "makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos." The book certainly promises some stimulating conversation topics so pick up your copy now to start preparing for the March discussion. As always, all are welcome at book club, whether you've read the book/seen the movie or not. Please contact Carrie Talley (carrie.talley@gmail.com) if you have any questions or to suggest titles for future discussions.
